Hello all, welcome to the blog again. Recently I had to go to the airport and faced a lot of issues in finding what I needed. When heading back home, I thought it would be helpful for many if I write some of the amazing facts about The Bengaluru International Airport. The official name of the Bengaluru Airport is called “Kempegowda International Airport”. This airport serves thousands of people daily, moving in and out of Bengaluru.
The Bengaluru airport opened in 2008, since then no looking back on the expansion of the airport. In 2013 the airport was named the Kempegowda International airport in honour of the founder of the city ” Kempe Gowda”. The airport is getting expanded day by day.
The Kempegowda International airport is one of the busiest airports in South India, and it is the third busiest airport in the country.
It is the single terminal airport & is a hub for Air Asia India, Alliance Air, Indigo, Go Air, Star Air, and a focus city for Air India and SpiceJet.
Bengaluru airport always faces fog, from November to February every year, due to which sometimes the flights may be cancelled or delayed.
Location & Transport
It is located off Bellary Road, National Highway 44, near Devanahalli, 40 Kms from the city. It is not very far. BMTC has made a convenient bus facility from every corner of the city to the Airport. Almost from every prime location of the city, there are direct Volvo buses( Vayu Vajra). These Volvo buses are scheduled to depart every 30 minutes, around the clock, and offer ten different routes from the city. The cost is 170 to 300 rupees one way, depending on the distance. There is also, train facility available from Kempegowda international airport to some parts of the city. If you are planning to fly, then plan prior and choose to travel by BMTC volvo bus. It is economical & safe.
The taxi services are available at the airport. But they are not worth it. The prepaid taxi has a separate stand at the left side of the exit from the arrival hall. These are way too expensive, just to a short distance as well. Compared to this, metered taxis are much more economical.
Uber and Ola also operate from the airport. They have dedicated pickup zones, the Uber pick up zone is located behind Quad by BLR retail plaza and the ola zone is near P2 parking, just beyond the bus stop.
Meru cabs & Mega cabs are also available.
Food & Breweries
Well, I don’t know how many of you get me, but I always feel hungry by the time I reach the airport. We all know that in almost every airport we get sandwiches. But if you feel like indulging in some delicacies, The Kempegowda International Airport has La Tapenade Mediterranean Cafe, opposite Gate 33 or La Alta Vita, an Italian trattoria opposite Gate 12. Quick eats include Taste of India, opposite Gate 17 or Noodle (Asian), opposite Gate 35. Wash your food down with a cocktail from Bar 380, adjacent Gate 37, or a cup of hot chai from Chai Point in arrivals.
There is also a windmills craft beer if you want to catch up for a quick flight between meets.
WiFi and Charging Points
Wi-Fi is available at Kempegowda International Airport. But it is accessible if you have an Indian phone number. Once you’re registered, you will receive the password via text msg. Suppose, if you don’t have a local number, you can use free internet stations all over the terminal. Charging Points, with eight outlets, are located at every gate.
Parking at Airport
There is an ample amount of parking space available at the airport for 2 wheelers and four-wheelers. P1 is the 2 wheeler parking lot & P2 is the 4 wheeler parking lot. They both have the respective amount to be paid. There is also parking available near the terminal; it is the p3 & premium parking.

Porters can be hired to carry luggage. The charge is 200 rupees for domestic and international departures and domestic arrivals.
A left luggage facility is available at the airport. The cost ranges from 470 rupees for up to 12 hours. The maximum duration of storage is five days.
Coins are needed to access some restrooms at the airport.
Baby care facilities
One can also buy, visitors pass, which costs around 100 Rs, to enter the terminal. It is valid for 2 hours from the time of purchase.
